The WeATHERED PIN

The Weathered Pin is a creative cabinet of curiosities – a growing archive of history, lore, curiosity, and mystery.

I’m fascinated by the stories attached to people and places – the documented, the remembered, the half forgotten and, usually, the difficult to explain. Those tales that spark and crackle with a static energy that has reverberated through time.

These accounts are the foundations are the Weathered Pin.

It all started with a pin!

A simple dressmaker’s pin, weathered and aged, piercing the top left corner of a stack of papers, a collection of letters written more than eighty years ago.

The letters were all addressed to Mr Harry Price, one of Britain’s best-known paranormal investigators and are achieved in the backrooms of the Senate House Library. The letters are written by my grandfather. Across the pages are Price’s notes, neatly marked in red pencil, highlighting the points of interest and recording the correspondence he had read and responded to. I never knew my grandfather, he died when my dad was thirteen, but decades later, tucked away in a hushed reading room, I found myself holding these pages and that pin, weathered but still dutifully holding it all together.

I’ve been fascinated by the strange and spooky for as long as I can remember. I’ve had experiences of my own, some significant, others ridiculously small, but I’m not interested in making something mysterious simply because I’d like it to be. Where something can be explained, I want to find that explanation. Where history can be verified, I want to find the receipts! But in those moments when it can’t be explained… well, that’s when things get interesting.

The Weathered Pin is where I’m gathering those threads: history and old records, local lore, firsthand accounts, places, people and experiences, and following them wherever they lead.

Some will have answers.

Some probably won’t.

The pin just holds them together.
